China

We're leaving for China on July 29th. We have been watching DVDs and looking at books on China. I have mixed feelings about going to China. I want to stay here but I also want to have an awesome adventure going somewhere new. I never thought I'd be going somewhere this far away. At first, we thought we might end up in Europe cause my Dad lived in Germany once and it sounded really cool. Me, I wanted to live in Italy. But when I heard we were going to China, I was pretty psyched. It was really exciting since we know some people from China. I thought we could send cool stuff and show everybody what it looks like.

We'll be able to come back in the summers on school vacation. Another cool thing is that Emma and I will be going to school. I've never been to school except going to preschool and that doesn't really count! The people in the school will not be speaking Chinese because it's an International school with people from all over the world. The school is an English speaking school. I can't wait to go to China!

Cool pics

I really like taking photos. Especially ones of the pets and nature. I got a camera for Christmas. It's so useful cause I had to always use my Mom's and now I have my own so I can just do whatever I want with it. So here are some cool pictures I have taken with my camera and my Mom's:

Mooselookmeguntic

Every year we go to Mooselookmeguntic. It's a camping place on Mooselookmeguntic Lake. We usually canoe to the island to get to our camping spot. It's usually a long trip and the canoe is always so full with our luggage. Sometimes it even takes us two trips! At the camping spot, we set up. Then me and Emma usually go for a swim in the lake if it's a nice day. The lake is so cool! We also have this other small island we go to. Well first, let me tell you the story of this island. One year my Dad left his glasses in the campground office. They sent them back to us and instead of saying to the "Woodheads", they said to the "Woodbrands". So that's how the island got its' name, Woodbrand Island. Every year we canoe out to Woodbrand Island from our campsite. Once we're there, we explore a little bit to see what's changed from the last year. Then we go swimming. Jumping off the rocks is our favorite thing to do.

We like to go fishing at Mooselook too. Sometimes we sit on the rocks, sometimes we go in the boat. We usually do it in the evening.

Sadie always comes with us to Mooselook. She loves swimming and scoping out the area. When we're fishing she likes to try and get the bobber. Then for the rest of the night she's obsessed with trying to get in the water and find it. But once it's time for her to eat, she totally forgets about it.

At some point on the trip we go hiking. We usually try something different every year.

I've been going to Mooselook since I was three. I always look forward to our trip!

Peaks Island Colonial Camp

Last summer I went to a Colonial camp on Peaks Island. Every day we'd get on the ferry with our friend Mazie and ride to Peaks Island. There we would walk to the teacher's house. They had chickens, a bunny, and a dog with blue eyes named Wallace. The teacher had three or four rows of peas in the front yard and before class we ate the peas! She also had a real outdoor clay oven. Every day we made bread to bake in the oven. She had an old-fashioned cookpot hanging over a fire. We made soup in it every day. Each day a different group would do the many jobs, like bread-making, fire-watching, soup-making or biscuit-making. We even made clover tea! After we did the cooking, we'd make crafts from colonial times like baskets, rope, aprons, and candles. On rainy days we'd have to spend some time in the house working on our projects.

I loved doing the candles and the cooking. The basket making was pretty fun but quite difficult. The last day you could bring family members to Peaks Island. We made a nice feast for everyone. We made biscuits, a chicken soup, a veggie soup, and clover tea. We also made fruit leather and spice cake. It was the best and only camp I've ever done!
